The title of 'Warhawk graduate' is the highest award conferred upon an individual who has completed the 8.5 weeks of basic military training (BMT) in the United States Air Force (USAF).
While trainees need only fulfill the minimum requirements for the physical fitness test (PFT) to graduate from BMT and make the transformation from civilians into Airmen, those who strive toward physical excellence will find the Warhawk a necessary and worthwhile challenge. Warhawk graduates and their families take part in an additional ceremony following graduation to receive their award. While the Warhawk isn't considered a big deal for anyone but the trainee, it's a reflection of an Airman's dedication to one of the core values of the Air Force: "Excellence in all we do." As a hopeful trainee striving toward this ideal, I'm currently training to earn the Warhawk should I join the USAF. Future Airmen are advised to be physically prepared well before their entry into BMT to better their chances at excelling.
