Stew Smith and the PULHES System

2nd DEP call on 16022011 at 0930. No new faces in the recruiting office. That is to say, no new prospects have processed at MEPS. This is what I'd expect since my recruiter told me that I'm next to go in.

Push-ups didn't improve as much as I'd hoped, but I'm still pleased with the results of former U.S. Navy SEAL Stew Smith's push-up program. The other recruiter in the office left his stopwatch running during the sit-ups, so can't accurately gauge my progress in that exercise. The run was the area in which I improved most; using a prospective pararescue jumper (PJ) as a pacesetter helped a lot. This time, I was trailing him. Next time, I hope to be running beside him. It'll be business as usual for the next DEP call. Onward and upward!

On another note, a depper I met at the last DEP call finally shipped to basic. His AFSC is 1A2X1,  aircraft loadmaster. Seeing these guys go gets me excited. I'm crossing my fingers for a nod of approval from MEPS.

Anyway, below is the push-up program I followed. On odd days, I'd do 200 push-ups in as few sets as possible. On even days, I'd do 200 push-ups throughout the day whichever way I wanted.

I'll be repeating this cycle again and will re-test at the next DEP call. I'll be following a similar template for sit-ups. Lastly, I'll be running >3x/week. Closing in on the Warhawk.

Military Physical Profile Serial System - PULHES

P - Physical capacity or stamina
U - Upper extremities
L - Lower extremities
H - Hearing and ears
E - Eyes
S - Psychiatric

The PULHES factor is a scoring system (from 1-5, 1 being the best) used to assess an individual's qualifications and eligibility for different AFSCs.

The PULHES profile required for AFSC 1N3X4, cryptologic linguist, is 333121. The strength requirement is the ability to lift 40 lbs, and the average deployment time is 1.5 months. Let's hope MEPS feels I'm qualified.
